Meet Our Team

Michael Lay is the founding Managing Partner of ONCAP. Under his guidance, ONCAP has grown to more than 20 investment professionals located in Toronto and New York.

Michael is a director of several ONCAP companies.

Michael has been in the private equity business for over 15 years. Prior to joining ONCAP, he accumulated over eight years of experience as Vice-President, Merchant Banking at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, as well as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer at VERSUS Technologies Inc., both in Toronto.

He is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and is a Chartered Accountant.

Greg is responsible for ONCAP’s efforts in the Engineering and Environmental Services and Industrial Technology industries. Since joining ONCAP, Greg has worked on a number of transactions, including Walter Surface Technologies, Davis-Standard, Pinnacle Renewable Energy, EnGlobe Corp. and CMC Electronics.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Greg was with Scotia Capital Markets in the Investment Banking business unit in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

Greg holds a B. Comm. (Honours) from Queen’s University.

Mark is responsible for leading ONCAP’s lower middle-market investing efforts across all sectors. Since joining ONCAP, Mark has worked on a number of transactions, including International Language Academy of Canada, Wyse Meter Solutions, AutoSource Motors, Tecta America, BSN Sports, CiCis Pizza, Futuremed, Armtec and EnSource.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Mark was a member of the Corporate Finance Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co. in New York and previously a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group at Nesbitt Burns in Toronto.

Mark is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a B.A. (Honours) in Economics from Boston College and an M.B.A. from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Mark is responsible for ONCAP’s efforts in the Consumer Products, Food & Beverage, Healthcare and Specialty Retail industries. Since joining ONCAP, Mark has worked on a number of transactions, including Laces Group, Chatters Canada, Bradshaw Home, PURE Canadian Gaming, CiCi’s Pizza, EnGlobe Corp., CMC Electronics, Futuremed and Armtec.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Mark was an Investment Professional at J.H. Whitney & Co. in Connecticut and at Lehman Brothers Merchant Banking in New York.

Mark holds a B.Comm. from Queen’s University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Edmund is responsible for ONCAP's efforts in the Business Services, Food & Beverage and Building Products sectors. Since joining ONCAP, Edmund has worked on a number of transactions, including Enertech Holdings, Tecta America and PURE Canadian Gaming.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Edmund worked at M/C Partners in Boston, a middle-market private equity firm with $1.2 billion in assets under management. Previously, Edmund worked in the Investment Banking group at Merrill Lynch in Toronto.

Edmund received an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and graduated with High Distinction from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor’s in Commerce and Finance.

Ryan is responsible for ONCAP’s efforts in the Agriculture and Packaging & Plastics sectors. Since joining ONCAP, Ryan has worked on a number of transactions, including Precision Global, IntraPac, Venanpri Group (previously ITG), Bradshaw, Davis-Standard, Pinnacle Renewable Energy, BSN Sports and EnGlobe Corp.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Ryan worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions group of Ernst & Young Orenda Corporate Finance in Toronto.

Ryan is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University.

Aly focuses on investment opportunities in the Environmental and Engineering Services, Healthcare and Automotive sectors. Since joining ONCAP, Aly has worked on the Venanpri Group (previously ITG) transaction. He is also actively involved with EnGlobe Corp.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Aly worked at Callisto Capital and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s private equity group, both in Toronto.

Aly holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Waterloo, an M.B.A. from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and is a CA and CFA charterholder.

Wole focuses on ONCAP’s investment opportunities in the Consumer Products, Outdoor / Leisure Activities and Testing, Inspection & Certification sectors. Since joining ONCAP, Wole has worked on a number of transactions, including Walter Surface Technologies, Laces Group, Chatters Canada, BSN Sports and Caliber Collision Centers.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Wole worked in the Corporate Strategy division of Deloitte Consulting and at OMERS Capital Partners, both in Toronto.

Wole holds an Honours in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business (Ivey Scholar) at the University of Western Ontario.

Steve focuses on ONCAP's investment opportunities in the Agriculture, Industrial Technology and Packaging sectors. Since joining ONCAP, Steve has worked on a number of transactions, including Precision Global, IntraPac, Venanpri Group (previously ITG), Mavis Tire Supply and Davis-Standard.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Steve worked at CIBC Merchant Banking and the Investment Banking division of Genuity, both in Toronto.

Steve is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and a CFA Charterholder.

Adam focuses on ONCAP’s lower middle-market investment opportunities across all sectors, as well as the Financial Services sector in the middle-market. Since joining ONCAP, Adam has worked on a number of transactions, including International Language Academy of Canada, Wyse Meter Solutions, Chatters Canada, Pinnacle Renewable Energy, PURE Canadian Gaming and Cicis Pizza.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Adam worked in the Investment Banking division of UBS in Toronto.

Adam holds an Honours in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business (Ivey Scholar) at the University of Western Ontario and is a CFA charterholder.

Since joining ONCAP, Stefan has worked on the Laces Group and Bradshaw Home transactions. He remains actively involved with these companies as well as with Hopkins Manufacturing and continues to evaluate and conduct due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Stefan worked in the Investment Banking division of RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.

Stefan holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours with Distinction) from the University of Manitoba.

Since joining ONCAP, Eugene has worked on a number of investments, including Wyse Meter Solutions, AutoSource Motors, CiCis Pizza and Mavis Discount Tire. He remains actively involved with these companies and continues to evaluate and conduct due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Eugene worked at BMO Capital Markets as an Associate in the Mergers & Acquisitions group in Toronto. Previously, Eugene founded and operated an automotive wholesale business based in Concord, Ontario.

Eugene holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from York University, a Juris Doctor from Western Law and an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business.

Since joining ONCAP, Jason has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Jason worked in the Investment Banking divisions of Canaccord Genuity and J.P. Morgan, both in Toronto.

Jason is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Since joining ONCAP, Akshay has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Akshay worked at Imperial Capital in Toronto.

Akshay holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours with Distinction) from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Since joining ONCAP, Rene has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Rene worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto and Montreal.

Rene holds a Bachelor of Commerce (first class honors) in Investment Management from McGill University.

Since joining ONCAP, Giancarlo has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Giancarlo worked in the Investment Banking division of Union Square Advisors in San Francisco.

Giancarlo holds an Honours in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business (with Distinction, Ivey Scholar) and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Media, Information and Technoculture (with Distinction) from the University of Western Ontario.

Since joining ONCAP, Miranda has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Miranda worked at Deloitte as a Senior Accountant in the Financial Institutions group in Toronto.

Miranda is a Chartered Professional Accountant. She also holds an Honours in Business Administration and a Graduate Diploma in Accounting from the Richard Ivey School of Business (with Distinction) at the University of Western Ontario.

Since joining ONCAP, Dante has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Dante worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions group at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto.

Dante holds an Honours in Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business (with Distinction; Ivey Scholar) at the University of Western Ontario.

Since joining ONCAP, Nicholas has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Nicholas worked at BMO Capital Markets in the Mergers and Acquisitions group in Toronto.

Nicholas holds a Juris Doctor and MBA from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from McGill University.

Since joining ONCAP, Gietha has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Gietha worked at DWM Asset Management in the Private Equity group and the Investment Banking division of Evercore, both in New York.

Gietha is a graduate of the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

Since joining ONCAP, Teague has been actively involved in evaluating potential acquisitions and conducting due diligence on new investment opportunities.

Prior to joining ONCAP, Teague worked at CIBC Capital Markets in the Investment Banking Division in Toronto.

Teague holds a Bachelor of Commerce (First Class Honours) from Queen’s University.
